Being in the education industry (Sort of. I think.), I hear [i+1] a lot; being in a Japanese subsidiary, I hear kaizen a lot; being exposed to games my entire life, I hear level up a lot. For most part of 2019, I feel like I’ve experienced a lot of +1s. In retrospect, I was incredibly whiny. But thank goodness, I learned to either overcome or let go. And mind you, letting go is not a bad option.

  • stressed over wedding requirements and decided not to think about them until the last minute.
  • bought tickets to Hokkaido.
  • pretended I was a D&D DM for my teammates at work.

  • met up with a friend from work who transferred to Sydney.

  • got stuck in the ‘Gong in the wee hours of the night with a low-batt phone.
  • got told by an Australian woman “Wow, you’re beautiful” while looking like a deer in headlights, holding my fiancé’s hand, a little bit soaked in rain, asking where the nearest hotel was.
  • got warned by a Persian (maybe) store owner that the hotel we were looking for was “not for people like you and me. Not for good people.”

  • rode an airplane alone from Sydney to Melbourne.
  • saw a climate protest by “sheltered Aussies”—according to an eavesdropped info.
  • occasionally got sad that I had lost my engagement ring.
  • realized how much I’m attached to the story behind my engagement ring.
  • met a Lao and a Romanian.
  • got told I look Indonesian, not Filipino.
  • bought myself a Dr. Who merch.
  • got angry about wedding planning.
  • ripped some of my fiancé’s clothes in the automatic washing machine. Unintentionally, I swear.
  • bought a secondhand jacket after walking from the Melbourne CBD to Brunswick.
  • realized that buying secondhand stuff might not be too bad.
  • played a broken piano in Queen Victoria Market’s food hall. (Video non-existent because the fiancé was busy filling out a raffle ticket).
  • feel in love with Melbourne’s free tram system.
  • tried to make Australian grocery items feel like homemade meals.
  • essentially lived as a local in a different country.
  • supported the fiancé making the big Switch.
  • got a Nintendo Labo.
  • wore three layers of clothes while walking around Melbourne.
  • went to Healesville Sanctuary to see koalas, kangaroos, emus, and wallabees.
  • got scared—similar to the kid who started squealing “Maaa!”—after a kangaroo crossed in front of me and the kid.
  • saw locals successfully fish in the St. Kilda Pier.
  • accompanied my fiancé to the airport and went home alone as he suddenly needed to fly to Brisbane.
  • found my engagement ring.
  • thought about moving to Australia.
  • returned to my alma mater and went to a Pre-Cana seminar.

  • told my best girl about how I don’t regret not singing with hobo-Slash back in the ‘Gong because another me (from a different timeline) got to do that.

  • became sad about how The Vanns dropped their original drummer but became happy with the newfound bro-ship between vocalist James Vann and left-hand guitarist James Cameron.
  • gave up thinking about wedding planning.
  • got exhausted by social interactions.
  • watched the fiancé turn into an apologist.
  • got schooled about biblical typology.
  • finally took the JLPT.
  • entered La Salle for the first time.
  • felt unforgiven.
  • got a multiple entry visa to Japan.
  • spent a lot of time on YouTube and found things like China’s clever but selfish moves, a successful face transplant, the North Korean community in Japan, slice-of-life live action anime by a Filipino vlogger, the ridiculous lengths people will go through to create “facts”, and the making of fake news.
  • bought tickets to an Iron Maiden concert in the Philippines.
  • found SlenderManTheBand, who does tutorials on Sticky Fingers songs.
  • subscribed to Yes Theory and put the idea of “seek discomfort” somewhere at the back of my head.
  • became proud of Jake Roper with his CYSTM serieswhich is free to watch!
  • got set back in D&D a lot! (2 levels behind the others)
  • mourned the death of Komikero Gerry Alanguilan.
  • started playing Final Fantasy VII on Switch.
  • became incredibly disappointed with how Star Wars ended.
  • defeated all Team Rocket Go leaders.
  • unintentionally retracted my nihilistic belief by telling my fiancé that even if the universe goes on, if nobody is there to think that “this matters” then the universe doesn’t matter.
