They have done it not just once – not even twice! – but four times already! Japanese Visual Kei band UCHUSENTAI:NOIZ is making noise in the Philippines. They have covered four Pinoy songs namely Narda by Kamikazee, Liwanag sa Dilim by Rivermaya, Superhero by Rocksteddy and Pinoy Ako by Orange and Lemons.
UCHUSENTAI:NOIZ has been in the Philippines a couple of times, especially after they released their Pinoy cover of Narda. They have attended some anime conventions performing both their original Japanese songs and some Pinoy covers.
After Narda, they covered Rivermaya’s Liwanag sa Dilim. When I heard this cover, I thought that Visual Kei sounds like punk-metal. With that in mind, I’ve always seen it as elitist in nature. However, in the video, UCHUSENTAI: NOIZ showed how devastated the situation is in Haiyan-hit areas. In fact, the video contained vocalist Angel-Taka’s visit to Tacloban to volunteer for ICAN. Who knows that such a band would go to such lengths to do something nice to foreigners?
Their third cover is my favorite, musically-speaking. I think their cover of Rocksteddy’s Superhero sounds the best because the words are clear and the rhythm and beat are relatively pop and toned down. Although the video leaves me dumbfounded because it’s funny: a band with dark-lined eyes and colorful costumes play as regular superheroes to Pinoy kids.
It all connects, so far. These Japanese men care for Pinoy kids – raising funds to give school supplies to children and interacting with them.
Their latest cover probably says something much bigger as to why they do such things. UCHUSENTAI:NOIZ covers Orange and Lemon’s Pinoy Ako while dancing in colorful barongs. And dance they really did!
This band gives me good vibes. Good vibes 🙂
